Community Library Network
Establishing free community libraries with books, computers, and internet access in underserved neighbourhoods.
In many urban slums and peri-urban areas of Kolkata, children and young adults have no quiet space to study, no access to books, and no exposure to digital tools. This severely limits their educational and career prospects.
Our Community Library Network establishes free-access libraries in these areas, stocked with age-appropriate books in Bengali and English, reference materials, newspapers, and magazines. Each library also has 5-10 computers with internet access.
Libraries run after-school homework help sessions, weekend reading clubs, and basic computer classes. They serve as safe spaces for learning and community interaction, open 6 days a week.
We have established 4 libraries serving over 1,500 regular users. Each library is managed by a local coordinator with support from volunteers, creating employment while building community assets.
