Building Schools in Rural Bengal
Providing access to quality education by constructing fully-equipped primary schools in underserved rural areas of West Bengal.
In many remote areas of West Bengal, children walk kilometres to reach the nearest school — if one exists at all. Premier Foundation identified 15 villages where no primary school existed within a 5km radius, leaving thousands of children without access to basic education.
Our initiative began in June 2023 with a pilot project in Bankura district. Working with local communities, architects, and education experts, we designed sustainable school buildings using locally-sourced materials and eco-friendly construction methods.
Each school is equipped with proper classrooms, clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, a small library, and a playground. We also recruit and train local teachers, ensuring communities have ownership of their children's education.
To date, we have completed 8 schools serving over 2,000 children. Our goal is to build 15 schools by 2026, ensuring every child in these communities has access to quality primary education within walking distance of their home.
